Getting the haircut that you are looking for isn't always as easy as you might think. You can go in to see the hair stylist and tell them that you want something that looks like that one person in that one movie, but unless you are specific about it, you may not get what you are looking for. However, it is possible to get what you are looking for. You just need to be a little more precise.
Find pictures of what you are looking for and take them with you to the beauty salon. See if you can find the pictures from different angles. You can get them by taking in magazines or finding the pictures online. If you can show the stylist exactly what you want, then you are off to a good start. The stylist may ask you what you like about that style and how you see it on you. Remember, just because you happen to like it doesn't mean that the style is going to look like that one person in that one movie when it comes to you. The stylist may be able to help you modify it so that you get the spirit of the style, but in a way that looks good on you.
Know the Terms
There are a whole lot of terms out there when it comes to hair styling. You don't have to know every single term out there and what it means. But, you should know the terms about your particular hair and the style you want. For example, if you have thick, heavy hair, then you would want to know what weight removal and undercuts are, and what the differences between the two are. Weight removal happens when you ask the stylist to take out some of the weight of your hair so that you can get the flowy hairstyle you want. They will do this by using a pair of scissors or a razor and just carve out some slivers of your hair. It won't be visually obvious, but it will give you less weight and more movement. An undercut can take some weight out of your hair, but that's not what it's designed for. An undercut is when some of the under layers of your hair are cut shorter than the over layers. The undercut can range in various lengths. Some people will have their undercut done so that it is down to skin, but the higher layers will hide it.
Knowing what to do to get the perfect haircut can help you feel better when you leave the stylist.
